Rogues can remain undetected while having a strong tactical advantage over many of their opponents. They shine as a Melee DPS class and are most effective in close quarter combat where they can sneak in and out quickly while inflicting massive amounts of damage.

Playing the Rogue class is ideal for players who don’t like hanging back and instead like being in the thick of the action. You will need super fast reflexes and always be aware of everything going on around you always.

So if you thrive on action, ambush and using stealth attacks on enemies, the Rogue class may be the ideal fit for you.

Rogues have several abilities that make them a powerful adversary in dealing damage as well as avoiding threats from enemies. Combat abilities generally fall under three categories: Opening Moves, Combo Moves, and Finishing Moves.

Rogues can also learn poison skills after completing special quests that are accessible at level 20. Poisons are great for boosting the power and effects of weapons but they only work for a short duration.

Opening Moves are what the Rogue begin combat with such as: Ambush, Cheap Shot, Sap, Premeditation, and Garrote. These combat moves can only be used while the Rogue is stealthed.

Combo Moves are fundamental to normal combat situations, these include: Sinister Strike, Vanish, Backstab, Gouge, Evasion, Feint, Ghostly Strike, and Blade Fury.

Finishing Moves rely on having enough combo points to use them and once activated include: Evescerate, Expose Armor, Rupture, and Slice and Dice.

Stand out Poison skills include: Instant Poison, Crippling Poison, and Wound Poison.

Other notable abilities which Rogues possess (outside of combat) include: Pick Pocket, Distract, Sprint, Detect Traps and Disarm Traps, and Stealth. This wide range of abilities that make up the Rogue class is one of the many reasons for their popularity amongst many players.

The three talent trees available to the Rogue is: Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety. The Assassination tree is best for PvP because of the frequent crits and because poison skills work a treat. Combo points can also be acquired much quicker as well as high bust damage.

The Combat tree focuses on consistent damage dealing. With Combat Rogues the stealth and opening attack abilities are ignored for a more straight up offense that usually involves running up to the target and unleashing violent attacks.

If you choose to level a Rogue, the Combat tree is best because they will be much harder to kill.

The Subtlety tree is all about stealth and sticking to the shadows. Subtlety is a great spec for PvP and battlegrounds because the talents are optimized for sneak attacks and stunning targets. This is also a stand out spec for dungeons and end game raids.

Rogues can be played by both Alliance and Horde. Draenei and Tauren are the only races in which the class is unavailable.

Rogues are a fun class but they are a tough class to learn to play well. As a pure damage dealer that does not heal or tank, to be effective in playing this class you will need to know all the abilities like the back of your hand and more importantly when and how to use them.

So if you want to be a master of damage dealing and have a variety of cool abilities such as ambush, stealth, and lock picking then give the Rogue class a try.
