While you may initially view healers as weak when it comes to the lack of damage they can inflict on enemies, this is not true with the priest. You do not want to take them lightly! They can strike out with vengeance on their enemies with a whole variety of devastating spells.

The priest class can be a very demanding role to play because you have to be constantly aware of the health of your team members at all times.

You also need to monitor your level of hate that you’re generating and you need to keep yourself healthy by not inflicting too much damage or abusing your power of healing.

Priests vary in their abilities due to their talent tree and specializations. Healing abilities include: group heals, resurrection of the dead, heals over a period of time, and single target heals.

Holy Magic abilities include: dispels and cures, direct damage and buffs. Shadow Magic abilities include: damage over time, mana drains, mind control and direct damage.

Each class of priest has three spec talent trees that are available to them to utilize. These are Discipline, Holy and Shadow. Talents should be viewed as upgrades to the priests stats and ability levels.

The Disciplined Priest is known for extreme durability, longevity and utility. They are effective at single target healing and although they are powerful group healers, Holy Priests are slightly more effective.

The Holy Priest is recognized as the best of all the healing classes in WOW. These priests are flexible healers when it comes to healing groups. They have a wide range of spells to do this including: Circle Of Healing and Prayer of Healing.

Shadow Priests can inflict the greatest amount of damage amongst all priest talent builds and are the DPS version of a priest. They have many spells that they can use to bring about this damage such as: Improved Mind Blast and Mind Flay.

If you choose to play a priest on the Alliance side you can choose from the following races: Dwarf, Human, Night Elf and Draenei. On the Horde side your choices for priest are from the following races: Blood Elf, Undead and Troll.
